Great white sharks are a lot less scary than their reputation suggests. They are protectors of the ocean’s biodiversity; feeding on the sick and weak, controlling prey populations, and helping to maintain the strength and diversity of other species. Despite having no natural predators, the great white shark population is in rapid decline. Over the last 50 years, there has been a 92% decline in number off the coast of Queensland, Australia.
Human beings are entirely responsible for the loss of great white sharks. Bycatch in the commercial fishing industry, illegal poaching and finning, entanglement in ghost nets, and the bioaccumulation of toxins associated with the ingestion of plastic are just a few of the biggest threats they face.
The 4Ocean limited edition Great White Shark Braided Bracelet pulls a pound of waste from our ocean, rivers, and coastlines as well as raising awareness and support for these marine creatures and the threats they face from plastic pollution.
